Anatomical Sciences

The Anatomical Sciences core is designed to prepare students for professional careers in biological research and teaching of the anatomical disciplines (i.e., gross anatomy, histology, neuroanatomy) related to health sciences.  This core provides training in clinical human anatomy and independent research for individuals seeking a career in teaching and research at the medical school or university level. Research of biological structure and function focuses on clinically relevant topics.

The Anatomy concentration prepares students for careers in teaching and research directed at understanding anatomy in the normal and pathological system.   The focus of these studies is on the clinically relevant aspects of major systems.  The primary purpose of the program is to prepare scholars to plan and conduct scientific research in the area of biomedical sciences. Students study all aspects of human morphology from both didactic and investigative points of view with the philosophy that anatomy is best learned from practical experience with dissection.  Successful applicants for the Anatomy specialization should have a strong science background, preferably with courses in anatomy, physiology, histology and computer science.
