Prerequisite Course Guidelines
- English Composition/ Writing intensive course: (minimum 3 semester or 5 quarter hours)
This course should primarily deal with written communication and be graded on the quality of the writing rather than on content. English literature, or scientific writing courses may be substituted. Courses can not be substituted simply because they require papers. - Introduction to Statistics: (minimum 3 semester or 5 quarter hours)
May accept statistics courses taught in biostatistics, education or psychology departments. Please send course description/outline to be reviewed. May accept a research methods class if course description indicates heavy content in statistics. - Psychology: (minimum 3 semester or 5 quarter hours)
- General Biology: (minimum 3 semester or 5 quarter hours)
Courses should be for science majors. May substitute general zoology for science majors. - General Chemistry: (minimum 8 semester or 12 quarter hours)
Must include lab. May accept courses in general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry or physical chemistry. - General Physics: (minimum 8 semester or 12 quarter hours)
Must include lab. Topics covered should include mechanics, electricity, and optics. - Human Anatomy: (minimum 3 semester or 5 quarter hours)
Strongly recommend that the course be in human rather than vertebrate anatomy. Substitution of comparative anatomy may be made. - Human Physiology: (minimum 3 semester or 5 quarter hours)
May substitute mammalian physiology but not exercise physiology. - or Combined Anatomy and Physiology: (minimum 6 semester or 9 quarter hours)
Strongly recommend that combined course deal with human rather than mammalian anatomy and physiology. If only one semester of a combined course is taken a second course both in anatomy and physiology will be mandatory to fulfill the requirement.
These courses are counted as your science prerequisites. Students must average a GPA of 3.0 or above on these courses. Students must also average a GPA of 3.0 or above on all of the courses listed above. Anatomy and Physiology must be a "B" or above.
Since we require 8 semester hours of both chemistry and physics, students who take one semester of either course and then switch to a quarter system will need 6 quarter hours to fulfill the requirement.
Students who take one semester of a combined anatomy/physiology course and then switch to a quarter system, will need to take a total of 5 quarter hours of anatomy and physiology to fulfill the requirement.
Grades of pass-fail are not considered acceptable for any course work grade. (However students are encouraged to take advance courses that would promote writing skill). If the applicant elects to use a "pass" grade, that grade will be calculated as a "C" for our GPA purposes.
