Requirements for Admissions
General information:
- Application deadline is November 16.
- Documentation of your Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- All prerequisite course work must be finished by the time classes start in May. A maximum of two outstanding prerequisite courses (to be completed by May, prior to the start of class) will be allowed if all other parts of the application are complete.
Step 1: Complete Application for graduate study at the University of Miami through PTCAS www.ptcas.org.
Step 2: Complete and submit all of the following items in one envelop by November 16 to PTCAS.
- Official Transcripts - The applicant should request one official transcript from each institution attended and mail the transcripts directly to PTCAS and send a copy of your request receipt with the application.
- Prerequisite Form - For prerequisite listing please refer to our prerequisite guideline page. Anatomy and Physiology grades must be a “B” or above.
- Three Letters of Recommendation - Letters of recommendation are required of all applicants. We must limit the number of recommendations to three. The applicant should request recommendations from persons well suited to evaluate her/his qualifications for graduate study and /or physical therapy. Such persons may include faculty members familiar with the applicant’s academic work in areas closely related to the proposed field of study, or other responsible persons well informed about relevant work that the applicant has done. At least one recommendation must be from a registered/licensed physical therapist.
- Documentation of Clinical Hours - Verification of 100 hours exposure to physical therapy is required and may be from more then one site.
Step 3: Graduate Record Exam (GRE) - Official score report of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Aptitude Test is required of all applicants. Our university code is 5815 and our department code is 0619. These codes facilitate the reporting of you scores. GRE scores are valid for five years only; after this, the test must be retaken. For information about testing dates, test centers, or to have your score forwarded. Contact: Graduate Record Examinations at http://www.gre.org. The University of Miami requires a minimum of 1000 on the verbal and quantitative section. In addition you are required to take the analytical section.
Step 4: Qualified applicants will be invited to visit the University of Miami to meet with faculty, tour the physical therapy facilities and campus.
Step 5: The University of Miami utilizes a rolling admissions process.
International Applicants: TOEFL All international students who do not speak English as their native language are required to submit the results of the Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL). Applicants who submit a TOEFL score of at least 213 on the computer-based test, or 550 on the paper-based test, will not be required to take any courses in English as a second language.
Note Applicants holding an undergraduate or graduate degree from an academic institution within the United States or another English-speaking country are not required to take the TOEFL examination.
