About Our Clinics
The UHealth Physical and Occupational Therapy team consist of highly trained professionals who assist patients in overcoming pain and recovering lost function. Our goal is to provide excellence in patient care, expand evidence-based practice, and to be a community partner.
Many of our practicing clinicians are graduates of the University of Miami’s Department of Physical Therapy (UMPT)doctoral program. UMPT has been consistently rated as one of the top 10 academic programs in the United States by U.S. News and World Report since 1995.
What is a Physical or Occupational Therapist?
- Physical and Occupational Therapists are healthcare professionals who provide care to individuals who have medical problems or other related conditions that limit their abilities to perform functional activities in their daily lives.
- Physical and Occupational Therapists diagnose and manage movement dysfunction and enhance physical and functional abilities.
- Physical and Occupational Therapists help restore, maintain, and promote not only optimal function but optimal wellness and fitness.
- Physical and Occupational Therapists help prevent the onset, symptoms, and progression of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilites that may result from diseases, disorders, conditions or injuries.
Conditions Treated by Physical and Occupational Therapists include:
Arthritis, Tendonitis, Back and Neck pain, Osteoporosis, Fractures, Dislocations, Hand Injuries, Joint Replacements, Sports Injuries, Pelvic Pain, Incontinence, Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, Balance Disorders, and Headaches.
Programs currently offered include:
Outpatient Orthopaedics, Hospital In-patient Physical and Occupational Therapy at UMH, Sports Physical Therapy, Geriatric Physical Therapy and Neurological Intensive Care Unit.
New Programs include: Vestibular Rehabilitaion, Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Occupational Rehabilitation, and Women’s Health/Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation.
